Priorities
My Priorities for Waukegan’s 5th Ward
Our residents deserve leadership focused on responsible government, strong neighborhoods, economic opportunity, environmental responsibility, and representation that remains connected to the people it serves.
After more than 20 years of the same old, same old, it’s time for a new perspective—one focused on progress for the future, because at the end of the day, we’re all in this together.
Fiscal Responsibility — I will approach our city’s finances with careful consideration of how taxpayer dollars are spent while recognizing the responsibilities we have as a city. That means responsibly funding our first responders and essential city services, meeting our debt and financial obligations, supporting institutions like the Waukegan Public Library, and making thoughtful investments in our community’s future. Fiscal responsibility means finding the right balance between controlling costs and ensuring Waukegan can continue providing the services residents depend on.
Public Safety & Safer Streets — Public safety begins in our neighborhoods. I will advocate for the resources our first responders need while also addressing everyday safety concerns residents experience, including speeding and dangerous driving on our residential streets. I will work with residents, city departments, and public safety officials to identify problem areas and pursue practical solutions that make our streets safer for pedestrians, children, families, cyclists, and drivers alike.
Responsible Economic Development — Growing our local economy is essential to Waukegan’s future. I will support responsible development that attracts investment, strengthens local businesses, creates opportunities, and expands our tax base for the long term.
Environmental Responsibility & Justice — Economic progress and environmental protection should go hand in hand. I will advocate for responsible development, cleaner and healthier neighborhoods, protection of our lakefront and natural resources, and decisions that consider the environmental impact on every part of our community. No neighborhood should disproportionately bear the burden of pollution or environmental hazards. Regarding the coal ash ponds, I believe that it is a severe threat to our drinking water and Lake Michigan. The responsible party shall bear the cleaning of it.
Communication & Accessibility — Residents should never feel disconnected from City Hall or their elected representative. An Alderperson should be accessible, responsive, and proactive in communicating what is happening at City Hall, listening to residents, and making sure the 5th Ward has a strong voice in city decisions.
These priorities are about delivering the kind of local government our residents deserve: fiscally responsible, focused on safer neighborhoods, committed to responsible growth, environmentally conscious, and accountable to the people we represent.
